Xenoblade Chronicles 2This game is truly a remarkable game. It is a game that gives you what you except from it but surprises you with much better. Even the way I obtained the game was unusually, I actually won something on a twitter giveaway for once. Well I haven’t completed the game yet, I have spent nearly 2 full days playing and have enjoyed every moment of it. I spent way too much time just playing around with the different systems then I should have. Xenoblade Chronilces 2 isn't the first game in the series that I have played. I played and loved Xenoblade Chronicles X, having 250+ hours in the game in a span of about 6 months. At first, I really wasn't that excited for the game. The game took the complete opposite direct then Xenoblade Chronicles X and I didn't like how it was looking to turn out. However, the unique combat system of the xeno drew me back in and put it on my wishlist. I planned to get it at spring break; however, I luckily won a twitter giveaway of a digital code for the game. |
| Xenoblade Chronicles 2 takes place in a world where the human race is forced to live on titans, huge living beasts with whole ecosystems on their back. These titans float/swim on the cloud sea, a giant sea of clouds that covers up a huge ocean. Humans are accompained by blades. Blades are seen as servant whom give humans power to fight. The story follows Rex, a saverager (someone who dives below the Could Sea to loot the bottom), who becomes a driver (someone who using blades to fight). His blade is Pyra, the aegis (the first and strongest blade), and he wants to help Pyra reach the World Tree (a huge tree in the middle of the world). Along the way he meets many different characters and learns a lot of the relationship betwene humans and blades and about the world around him.
The core system behind every xeno game is the battle system. In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, each character is able to have 3 blades and each blades has 3 arts. An art is like a special attack that deals a damage, debuffs, heals and sometimes effects. Character automatically auto-attack and are able to use arts at anytime. Using arts builds a special meter. The special meter is a special attack to each character and has four levels. Character are able to chain special attacks by the element of their blade to deal more damage. This is called a blade combo. I'm just straching the surface, the combat system is extremely rich and deep; however, it is amazing the things you can pull off if you know it all and use it correctly. |

Another complex system in Xenobalde Chorincles 2 is the stats and affinity chart. Stats are ranged from luck to strenght and dexterity. They increase as each character leveks up. Each character and blade have affinity charts. Affinity chart are like a skill tree; however, it is already pre-determined. To unlock new skills and increase other, certain parameters need to be meet. While the map isn't a truely a open-world, the section of the map that the player is able to move around in are large. Each section is unique and packed with content to interact with. There is always something to do in each area, whether it is defeating enemies, collecting items or visting the different towns. |
| The game had a lot of work put into it and it shows. The landscapes are beatiful for the graphics the Switch can handle and they bring the whole together. The soundtack is also amazing. All of the music feels right in place for the location. The cutscenes are ok, there are way too many of them (all of the cutscenes add up for almost 14 hours) and lip dubbing isn't that good. The UI and the map can be a bit hard to handle and it feels like it just a tad to long for the menus to load up. I have honestly enjoy my time Xenobalde Chorincles 2. The game definitely isn't for everyone. The combat system and affinity charts are hard to grap; however, once you are able to master them, the game shows it's really colors. The story can be a bit cheesy at times, however, (so far) it has not disappointed. It sometimes feels like I am playing a piece of art when I playing, how everything fits together and works together perfectly. Well it will never reach the high of the orginal Xenobalde Chronicles, Xenobalde Chronicles 2 is great addition to the series and a is must have for any Switch owner that enjoy jrpgs and roleplaying games. |
